MINUTES OF 86TH IAPM KERALA CHAPTER MEETING HELD ON ZOOM ONLINE PLATFORM ON 7/3/2021 AND 8/3/2021
The inaugural function started at 8:30 AM on 7/3/21 with a prayer. Dr Nobin Babu K, Secretary, IAPM Kerala chapter welcomed the gathering and which was followed by the Presidential address by Dr Rajan G. After the inaugural function, Dr. Devarajan E, Prof. & HOD, Dept. of Radiodiagnosis, GMC Kozhikode, gave the guest lecture on “Pathology of bone lesions – Radiological predictors”. Dr. Neena Mampilly, Senior Consultant Pathologist, Baby Memorial Hospital, Kozhikode moderated the session. This was followed by another guest lecture by Dr. Bharat Rekhi, Prof./Pathologist, TMH Mumbai. Topic of the lecture was “Approach to the diagnosis of bone tumors, including recent updates”. Dr. Jayasree K, Prof.
& HOD, Dept. of Pathology, Regional Cancer Centre Thiruvananthapuram moderated the session. The talks were well appreciated by the audience.
Slide seminar on “Pathology of Bone and Joints” was conducted by Dr. S Sankar, Prof. & HOD and
Dr. Priya PV, Associate Prof, Dept. of Pathology, GMC Kottayam. 13 cases were discussed, followed by 9 spotters. The prize for the best case was shared, Dr. Ashamol Akbar; GMC Trivandrum (Case 11; Phosphaturic mesenchymal tumor) & Dr. Thameem Ahmed; GMC Kottayam (Case 4; Aggressive osteoblastoma – Epithelioid type).
The second part of the session started at 3:30PM, which was Business meeting.
The minutes of the last chapter meeting held on 20/9/20 was passed.
The following matters were discussed and decisions were taken.
- The next Chapter meeting is likely to be held on online platform and the dates will be
finalised later. - The topic for slide seminar was decided as “Lymphoreticular system” and there will be 2
moderators, Dr. Neena Mampilly, Senior Consultant Pathologist, Baby Memorial Hospital,
Kozhikode & Dr Indu R Nair, Professor Pathology, AIMS, Kochi. - Suggestions for the conduct of Professor Ramachandran Memorial Gold Medal examination
in online platform for 2018 MBBS admission batch was sought. Dr KP Aravindan told setting
the question paper will be challenging. Dr Feroze M pointed out to use the LRC facility in
various colleges for the conduct of online exam. Dr Ajith Nambiar said the duration should be
set in such a way that the participants won’t get enough time even if they google it. The
President suggested that help of a software team will be sought for the conduct of online exam.
A final decision regarding the exam will be made later. - Dr Jayalakshmy, MES Medical college suggested to categorise posters into Case report,
Case series and Original research. Dr KP Aravindan told there is no need to reject posters.
The President, IAPM Kerala Chapter, proposed the idea of giving three prizes for posters as
we were receiving many entries. The decision to accept all genuine posters and to give one
prize each for the best poster in each category were made. - Decision was taken to go ahead with the development of Pathology synoptic report format
software. A committee will be formed shortly. - Dr Neena Mampilly suggested the idea of uploading the rare pathology tests done in each
centre and uploading the same in chapter website as this will be of great help for centres who
don’t have this facility.
Following the general body meeting, the free paper session commenced at 5:00 PM. The
session was moderated by Dr. Sathi PP, Prof. & HOD Pathology, KMCT Medical College
Kozhikode. The winner of best paper was Dr Nirosha R; AIMS Kochi; “Pathological
classification of endometrial carcinomas”. The second part of the session concluded at 6:30
PM.
The remaining session commenced at 3:30PM on 8/3/21 by Dr. Ana Richelia, Pathologist,
Medical & Scientific Affairs @Roche Asia-Pacific. She gave the guest lecture on “MMR IHC
as pan-tumor predictive biomarker for immune therapy”. Dr Ajith Nambiar, Prof. & HOD,
Dept. of Pathology, AIMS Kochi moderated the session. This was followed by a quiz
competition for postgraduates. This was conducted by Dept. of Pathology, GMC Kozhikode
& Calicut Pathalumini. GMC Kozhikode (Dr Jasmin Scaria & Dr Vimi Winson) finished as
winners of the event.
The prize for the best poster was won by Dr A Vyshnavi Sathish; AIMS Kochi;
(Adrenocortical carcinoma. A 5-year experience from a tertiary centre).
Congratulations to all prize winners!
The meeting came to an end at 6:15 pm after the Valedictory function. The Chapter Secretary
thanked the organizers and all the members.
