MINUTES OF 66th IAPM Kerala Chapter Meeting held at Govt.Medical College Thrissur .
The meeting was arranged in The Academic complex in the Govt.Medical College campus, Thrissur on 12th February2011.
The inaugural function started at 9 am. The Welcome address was given by Dr.Joy Augustine, Professor & HOD, Department of Pathology,Govt Medical College,Thrissur. Dr.S.Sankar,Chairperson,IAPM Kerala Chapter gave the Presidential address. This was followed by Inauguration of the Meeting by Dr Girija.K.R, Vice principal Govt Medical College Thrissur.She wished all success to the programme .Dr.Rajan, Additional professor of Pathology Calicut Medical College introduced the MBBS Student Mr Joe James ,who won the Ramachandran memorial award in 2010 and Dr. Girija gave away the award to Mr.Joe James.. Mr .Joe James spoke a few words thanking his teachers .Dr. Lasitha.S, Associate Professor of Pathology,Govt Medical College Thrissur,delivered the vote of thanks.
Dr.Krishna, Professor of Pathology, Medical college Kottayam, introduced the Guest speaker Dr.Jaysree, K, Additional professor and Head of the Dept. of Pathology, RCC ,Trivandrum.She gave the guest lecture on "Challenges in the diagnosis of bone tumors" .She highlighted the points for differentiating various bone lesions and described the diagnostic approach in bone lesions.
This was followed by the Business meeting -
The members observed silence for a minute in memory of members who passed away recently Dr.Bhama(Trichur) and Dr.Zainaba(Trivandrum).Dr.Muthukrishnan,Secretary ,IAPM, read the report of the 65th IAPM Chapter meeting held at Kolenchery.It was passed .
The following matters were discussed and decisions were taken.
1.The Venue of the 67th IAPM Chapter Meeting was decided to be at MES Medical college, Perunthalmanna, with proposed date as 13th August 2011..Dr.Asiq Sideeque.N. was proposed as the Organizing secretary by Prof.Geetha Gopal.The members requested that transport be arranged from Shornur/Pattambi.The topic for slide seminar would be "Endocrine Pathology excluding thymus".Dr Supriya N K,Professor of Pathology, Calicut Medical College was selected as the moderator.
2. Since IAPM Kerala Chapter cannot be registered as a separate body and separate PAN number cannot be obtained it was decided -to discuss with the Joint secretary of the IAPM whether permission can be obtained from IAPM to register as an academic body.
3.It was informed that the website of this chapter has been renewed for a period of 3 years at a cost of Rs 2430/-
4. A Loan of Rs 30000/- was given for the conduct of National CME Thrissur and same was requested to be repaid..Dr.Joy Augustine,Organising secretary of CME agreed to do so.
5. Dr Aravindan K P suggested that The FDs of IAPM Kerala Chapter may be kept as short term deposits. in SBT,Trivandrum with renewal every 3 months/45 days.This was passed.
6. It was suggested to increase The Professor Ramachandran memorial cash award to Rs 5000/- and corpus to Rs 50000/-.Same was passed and necessary finance will be transferred from corpus FD of IAPM Kerala Chapter
7. It was suggested to enhance the Corpus amount of Prof Thagavelu Oration also to 3 lakhs so that amount given for Silver Salver and TA/DA of speaker can be enhanced. Same was passed and necessary finance will be transferred from corpus FD of IAPM Kerala Chapter
8.It was decided to update the address book in 2012. The address book will be included in the website from 2012.
9.The awardees of Professor Ramachandran memorial award may be included in the address book.
10.There was a suggestion to start an e- journal by IAPM Kerala Chapter.. Feasibility to be studied as to how to implement it A 4 member team was proposed to look into this matter and submit a feasibility report .The members of the committee are -Dr.Aravindan K P , Dr.Prasad P H, Dr.Feroz M and Dr.Muthukrishnan C P.
11.It was suggested by Prof Annamma M O that Posters and Papers should not be having funny catchy names. Instead the main topic should be included in the title. All members were requested to take note of this fact while submitting papers and posters for presentation.
12.Dr Neena M suggested that members of this chapter should go strictly by IMC norms as regards to working in teaching institutions. It was agreed by all that this suggestion is to be viewed seriously as it will have a bearing on the standard of teaching pathology in the state.
The business meeting was followed by Slide seminar on "RENAL PATHOLOGY" which was moderated by Dr.Seethalekshmy.N.V.15 cases were presented. Each case was discussed elaborately and related new concepts were highlighted by the moderator. The diagnoses and presenters were

Report of the 7th National CME conducted in connection with the Chapter meeting.
The 7th National CME was organized by the Govt. Medical college,Trichur ,Amala Institute of Medical Sciences, Jubilee Mission Medical College & Research Institute,Sudharma metropolisThrissur & Trichur Path club on 13th and 14th feb.2011at Academic complex ,Govt. Medical college, Thrissur campus.. Dr. Joy Augustine, Professor of Pathology, Govt Medical College Thrissur, was the organizing secretary. Inauguration of CME was by Dr.K. Mohandas VC, KUHAS, on Feb12th evening 2011. Keynote Address was given by - Dr. B . Ekbal ( Former Vice Chancellor University of Kerala).
